Learning Objectives

Use the following objectives to check your learning as you proceed through the class:

  • Understand the importance of using digital text, print, and other media in curriculum.
  • Find the eBook collections on the INFOhio website: www.infohio.org.
  • Understand actions needed to access eBooks and personalize use for each collection. 
  • Identify eBook features that support accessibility.
  • Use Educator Tools to identify titles to use in the classroom.
  • Identify four approaches useful when supplementing eBooks in the curriculum.
  • Identify best practices for using eBooks in the classroom.
  • Reflect on learning by sharing information with others.

 

In this class, you will work through several lessons to learn how to access eBook collections from INFOhio and integrate them into your classroom teaching.

Getting Started

  • Using Open Space Groups: Join the Open Space group High-Quality Instructional Materials for Each Child. In this group, discuss and reflect on the integration of these resources into the classroom with like-minded educators. 5 minutes
How to Use Quality eBooks from INFOhio
  • Finding the Right eBook in Educator Tools: Discover how to search all eBooks to meet specific needs in the classroom. 20 minutes
  • Using the Grade Level eBook and Video Collections with Students: Consider ways to support students with eBook collections created for enjoyment and learning. 20 minutes

Using eBooks for Teaching and Learning
  • Using the Four Es to Supplement Curriculum: Explore four ways supplemental materials support student learning. 20 minutes
  • Integrating Technology for Student Success: Learn about the Best Practices for Digital Reading and explore a professional learning eBook with practical strategies for using technology in instruction. 20 minutes
  • Explore strategies and approaches to help students learn using eBooks by reviewing:
    • Best Practices for Using eBooks in the Primary Classroom:  20 minutes
    • Best Practices for Using eBooks in the Middle School Classroom:  20 minutes

Checking your Learning
  • Self-Assessments: Answer questions to reflect on what you learned. 15 minutes
  • Contact Hour Quiz and Certificate: Take a quiz to earn a certificate for 5 contact hours. 5 minutes
